What is the Dar El Patio Courtyard House?
El Patio Courtyard House is a small guest house. It is also a story of personal commitment and strong interest in the ambitious conservation project of the old town of Tunis. By restoring and renovating our house, which dates from the beginning of the 18th century, we want to contribute to the preservation of the old town and the strengthening of the social status of its inhabitants. Our dar is located in a district of the old town of Tunis. The most important sites of the medina are within walking distance such as: the Ezzitouna mosque (8th century), the Place de la Kasbah with its Bey palaces (17th and 18th century), the souks of Tunis.

Should we behave and dress in a particular way?
No special instructions. Freedom of morals and acceptance of all lifestyles have been part of the very essence of Tunisia for millennia. A modern young woman meeting another veiled woman in the city center is completely normal. There are no mandatory rules on dress in public spaces. But when visiting religious buildings, it is appropriate to dress in accordance with the prescriptions of the faith concerned. Likewise, it may be appropriate not to choose clothing that is too short when walking in areas with a conservative religious tradition, such as the Medina.

Things to know before booking:
According to Tunisian law, Tunisian couples or mixed couples (non-Tunisian accompanied by a Tunisian citizen) sharing the same room must show proof of marriage upon check-in. Without this proof we have the legal obligation to refuse the Tunisian part. It is, therefore, everyone's responsibility to find out before booking, as it is our responsibility to respect the law. Our cancellation policy is strict. All reservations made are non-modifiable and non-refundable.

Pets policies
The reason why we implement “no pets allowed” policy do so for various reasons. First and foremost, it helps maintain a clean and hygienic environment for all guests. Some people may have allergies or sensitivities to pet fur, which could lead to discomfort or health issues during their stay. By prohibiting pets from entering the premises, we ensure that everyone can enjoy a safe and pleasant experience.
Another reason behind is that pets may accidentally cause damage to furniture or fixtures, resulting in additional expenses or inconvenience for our guests. Moreover, noise disturbance caused by barking dogs or other disruptive behaviour can disturb other guests’ peace and tranquillity. Thank you for your comprehension

Parking
Our house is located in the heart of the medina at 280 meters from the main street, Avenue Bab Mnara. Some taxi drivers do not want to enter the medina of Tunis because of the narrow roads. In this case, ask the driver to take you to “Bab Mnara”, the closest point for cars outside the medina of Tunis. If you arrive by car, and even if there is plenty of free parking in the vicinity of our Dar, we recommend the secure underground parking of the government square 8-10 minutes walk from our Dar. Here is a Google Maps link to facilitate your arrival: https://maps.app.goo.gl/b3GubGvsnCLZMs6r5
